Kahne & Westheimer Hyperlinks

Throughout "In The Service of What? The Politics of Service Learning," Joseph Kahne and Joel Westheimer discuss the purpose of service learning in several fields, and more. They explain at service learning projects are more engaging for students, and provide real life learning experiences in the field. And the goal is not only for the student/person to learn but also to help and give back to someone or a group in the community. And behind these goals stand 3 domains; those being: moral (giving & caring), political (civic duty), and intellectual (transformative  &adaptive experiences).  Service learning is a major component of possible acts of reform in schools in order to give students necessary experiences and activating their actions to be compassionate and help someone else out. Though in the three domains mentioned previously there may be faults and setbacks in different situations. The outcome is not always the positive one which we hope for, or the one where a fault is and goals are not met, but that does not mean we should not support service learning. These projects benefit students and those they work with, engage students in community service and promote critical thinking/reflection skills.
